"You don’t have to get stuck in a negative experience. You don’t have to be a victim to external events, or internal emotions. You can use your mind to take charge of how you feel, and how you act." - Daniel J. Siegel

Psychotherapy

When life seems to be too overwhelming and too unpredictable, or it brings stress, sadness, insecurities, anger, fear, grief; psychotherapy can offer relief, clarity, and coping skills. Psychotherapy helps you to accept your feelings and your authentic self.

Whether you are seeking therapy to address particular issue such as a car accident or other traumatic experience, anxiety that impedes your accomplishments, or depression that has stolen your mojo, you will be offered a safe space to communicate openly and grow on your own pace.

In our sessions together, I will join you to explore the roots, understand the symptoms and complexities, and help you improve your quality of life. I aim to provide you with the tools you will need to overpower negative beliefs, challenging behaviors, unhealthy habits so that you can start a new and enjoyable life.

As an EMDR therapist, I have had the privilege of witnessing change, a regained sense of control, balance, and re-connection with the self, and with others, as a result of the psychotherapy process.

Trauma

Every person responds to traumatic experience differently. Trauma often represents emotional injuries and invisible wounds that are difficult to find the words to explain. When we survive a traumatic event, our beliefs about ourselves, others, and the world often change. We may start believing that the world is not a safe place, that we cannot trust people, that we are not good enough, that we have no voice or power, or that we will never feel joy again. Painful memories that result from life situations that are out of ordinary continue to live in our bodies and our minds,  resurfacing seemingly out of nowhere, often when we least expect or want them; anything can be a trigger. Very often, so much of what we are struggling with today is a result of what we have experienced in the past.

Unprocessed trauma can lead to PTSD, anxiety, depression, and many other unwanted states and reactions. Trauma can prevent us from enjoying our lives, having healthy relationships, feeling confident in our performance, having positive self-esteem and positive body image, being the partners or parents as we imagined.

On the other hand, healing from trauma provides us opportunities to grow and to feel more grateful and enthusiastic about our lives.

EMDR Therapy

EMDR Therapy was developed by Dr. Shapiro in 1989. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and represents an effective and well researched treatment for trauma symptoms.

Disturbing life experiences and memories of loss do not have to define your future. EMDR Therapy helps the mind to heal itself naturally, in the same way that the body already does. The EMDR approach works to unlock and process the traumatic memories, thus releasing them from being trapped in your mind and body. Once the traumatic memory is reintegrated into the mind in a more productive way, the brain begin to heal.

EMDR Therapy treatment may leave you free from the nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety and low energy you may have been experiencing, and start you down your path of recovery with a sense of hope, calmness, and joy.

My Approach

My Approach to Psychotherapy

Before you tell me that there is something wrong with you, let me hear what happened to you!

I appreciate that you set your mind to healing. It takes a special kind of courage and strength to make this first step. I honor your patience to read what I have to offer.

If you are an adult looking for a safe space to improve your life, I'm here to tailor my approach to your personal context and needs. If your emotional pain prevents you from dealing with life because of depression, anxiety, anger, guilt, fear, or grief,

I am here to meet you where you are with no judgement.  I strongly believe that change in the therapy room happens much faster when the therapeutic relationship reflects the client’s sense of safety, appreciation, and trust. As I  believe in the healing power of interpersonal connection, I use my calm, warm, and grounded presence to help you feel empowered, confident, and centered.

I have found that my personal experience with immigration, marriage, and motherhood, as well as my spiritual beliefs and moral values, influence my therapy style and are reflected in a soft strength that nurtures and inspires my clients.

I am attentive to the ways cultural and social factors impact mental health and I love working with individuals and families of any configuration. I think that cultural sensitivity and cultural humility when working with culturally diverse populations are very important.

As a client-centered therapist, I strongly believe that the client's natural potential to grow, combined with a genuine care and empathy is integral to true healing. My approach is outcome-driven and trauma informed, meaning that I use psychotherapy tools to help you achieve your goals but in a way that supports your natural pace and needs.

I want you to know that psychotherapy is not just about putting a label on your symptoms and getting rid of them. I believe that psychotherapy is the beautiful art of healing and I am passionate about helping those in need to grow in a warm, compassionate, and empowering atmosphere.

I know you can, and you will heal.
